The EOC Reports on Work Plans and Progress

16/12/2010

Members of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) met on 16 December 2010 (Thursday) at the 88th EOC Meeting and discussed various matters related to the Commission’s business including the following:
  1. The Government’s response to the Commission’s Formal Investigation (FI) Report on Accessibility in Publicly Accessible Premises
  2. Revision of the Code of Practice (COP) on Employment under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO)
On the Government’s response to the Commission’s FI Report on Accessibility, Members welcome the comprehensiveness of the response, the speed with which the extensive Retrofitting Programme is going to be implemented, and the appointment of Access Coordinators in all Government Departments/Bureaux and Access Officers in all public venues. Members resolved that the Policy and Research Committee together with its Working Group on Access should monitor the implementation of the Retrofitting Programme closely to make sure that the improvements promised in the Programme will be delivered as scheduled.

On the revised COP on Employment under the DDO, Members endorsed the modifications which had incorporated the key suggestions from stakeholders during public consultation. They include using better case examples for illustration and more explanations on complex subjects such as sick leave. The Code will be submitted to LegCo for formal endorsement.
