HER Fund to organise charity screening of EOC-funded feature A Woman is a Woman

Family estrangement, school bullying, workplace discrimination, social stigma, medical pathologisation... For transgender people, the intolerance of the world around them could seem insurmountable at times. Transwomen, in particular, may be seen as a disgrace to the family in traditional Chinese societies where patriarchy easily breeds a toxic obsession with masculinity and a dangerosuly narrow conception of filial piety.

To shed light on their plight and tireless struggle for self-actualisation, producer and local transgender advocate Mimi WONG has teamed up with young director Maisy Goosy SUEN to make A Woman is a Woman, an unapologetic, empowering portrait of two transwomen - one a teenage student still learning to make sense of her own body and the other a loving wife and step-mother - as they navigate through a difficult life. Funded by the EOC during script development, the film has a notably inclusive cast and crew, with transwomen and LGBT-friendly artists both before and behind the camera.

HER Fund is organising a charity screening of the film on 2 November 2018 (Friday), 7pm at UA Cine Times, Times Square, Causeway Bay. Net proceeds will go to the organisation's grant scheme and capacity-building initiatives in promoting gender equality. Sharing sessions and experiential workshops will also be held in October to further enhance awareness of transgender issues. For details, please click the links below.
