EOC celebrates International Women’s Day with host of events

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021, the EOC has rolled out a series of initiatives this month, including a photo exhibition featuring original works by women photographers, an online seminar about intersectional inequality, and a LinkedIn campaign spotlighting women working in the Commission.

  • The Way We Are: an exhibition at G/F, Run Run Shaw Tower, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) featuring photographs contributed by underrepresented women in Hong Kong, including carers, migrant workers, ethnic minority youth and new arrivals from mainland China, as well as other marginalised communities, such as people facing physical and mental health challenges, opening until 23 March 2021;
     
  • “Marginalisation and Empowerment: Voices of Hong Kong Women”: an online seminar co-organised by the EOC and the Committee on Gender Equality and Diversity, Faculty of Arts, HKU on 7 March 2021, exploring how gender, race, socio-economic status and other factors intersect and shape the challenges facing women in Hong Kong, and the history and potential of art as a medium of empowerment and catharsis (watch the video recording here); and

  • #EOCommunity campaign on LinkedIn: a feature on three of the many inspirational women working in the EOC and defying stereotypes along the way.
