Summer edition of EOC periodical “Equality Perspectives” now available online
Effective from 19 June 2021, Hong Kong’s Sex Discrimination Ordinance (SDO) protects women from discrimination and harassment on grounds of breastfeeding in key areas of public life, such as employment, education, and provision of goods, services or facilities (GSF). To raise public awareness, the EOC dedicated the 2021 Summer edition of its periodical Equality Perspectives to explaining the legislative change. Distributed as an insertion in Sky Post on 2 July 2021 and available for download on the EOC website, it adds to a wealth of earlier publications on the topic (including booklets and guidance for employment-related and other sectors) and an ongoing publicity blitz across Facebook and LinkedIn.
This latest issue of Equality Perspectives includes three articles revolving around the theme “Creating a Breastfeeding-friendly City”:
- “Understanding Breastfeeding”: A look at the benefits of breastfeeding and the structural and attitudinal barriers breastfeeding women have been facing in Hong Kong.
- “Six Questions to Walk You Through the Law”: An explainer of the key protections for breastfeeding women under the SDO.
- “How Can Organisations Become Allies for Breastfeeding Women?”: A list of do’s and don’ts for employers and GSF providers looking to adopt good practice.
