EOC’s Racial D&I Charter hits 200-signatory mark on three-year anniversary

Three years ago, the EOC launched Hong Kong’s first-of-its-kind platform for connecting employers committed to promoting racial equality in the workplace – the Racial Diversity & Inclusion (D&I)  Charter.

It had a simple but important goal: to encourage dialogue, practices and policies that not only bring about equal opportunities for all in employment, but also help businesses realise the benefits of recruiting and grooming multi-cultural talent.

Today, over 200 organisations have pledged their support as signatories. They range from global and local conglomerates to SMEs, charities, educational institutions and sports organisations.

As these D&I allies grew in number, the EOC has gradually shifted its focus from expanding the Charter network and facilitating knowledge exchange to recognising best practice and fostering collaboration between employers and NGOs who serve non-Chinese communities.

Thanks to the support of the signatories, the EOC has held more than 30 Charter-related events to date, including training workshops, seminars and roundtables. Together they attracted over 3,000 participants.

In particular, the EOC would like to express its deepest gratitude to Community Business for advising on the formation of the Charter and The Zubin Foundation for creating internship opportunities for non-Chinese youth in a joint partnership.

Looking ahead, the EOC hopes to help employers develop a more comprehensive way to assess the outcomes of their D&I initiatives, while continuing to mobilise more organisations to provide job opportunities for disadvantaged communities.
