Anti-discrimination seminar for property management sector attracts 200-strong audience

EOC’s seminar for property management sector attracts 200-strong audience

Engaging the business sector has always been one of the priorities in the EOC’s work. On 29 June 2022, the EOC was invited by the Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIHAPB) to deliver an online training session titled  “Introduction to the Anti-discrimination Laws and Implications for the Property Management Industry”. Over 200 CIHAPB members attended the event.

The speakers from the EOC included: Dr Ferrick CHU, Executive Director (Operations); Ms Doris TSUI, Acting Head (Policy, Research and Training); Ms Sandy LUNG, Senior Training Officer; and Mr Raymond HO, Senior Equal Opportunities Officer (Ethnic Minorities Unit).

The EOC first gave an overview of anti-discrimination laws in Hong Kong and outlined the concept of legal liability and unlawful acts. Examples of accessible design that can be adopted in different premises were discussed with the participants. The EOC also highlighted new amendments under the law (e.g. protection for breastfeeding women) and different ways to accommodate the needs of people from diverse ethnic backgrounds in housing and property management.
