EOC Chairperson to speak on housing inequalities at webinar on World Habitat Day

In honour of World Habitat Day, EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin will attend a virtual fireside chat hosted by Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong on 3 October 2022 (Monday), 1pm-2pm and share insights into the difficulties confronted by non-ethnic Chinese and persons with disabilities in Hong Kong in accessing quality housing.

Titled “Leave No One Behind: Addressing growing inequalities in housing”, the event is free-of-charge and will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation in Cantonese. Mr Chu will speak about how racial bias and prejudice may lead some landlords in the city to refuse to rent out their apartments to people of South Asian descent, as well as the role of universal design in improving housing conditions not only for people with disabilities, but for other communities as well.

Mr Chu will be joined on the panel by Ms Susan ARAKA, Housing Development Expert at the Regional Office for Africa, UN Habitat. The conversation will be moderated by Ms Karen LEE, Project Manager (Spatial) at Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
