EOC staff recognised at The Ombudsman’s Awards 2022

Two EOC staff members have been named winners of The Ombudsman’s Awards 2022 in the “Officers of Public Organisations” category.

Miss Sofie WU Pui-yan, Senior Equal Opportunities Officer (Complaint Services) and Ms Annie YIP Kit-ying, Senior Equal Opportunities Officer (Complaint Services) (Acting) were commended for their professional and excellent service in handling complaints lodged by members of the public under the anti-discrimination ordinances.

Joining the EOC in 2018 and 2015 respectively, Sofie and Annie demonstrated exemplary skills and professionalism in handling complaints and facilitating successful conciliation between the parties involved. Notwithstanding the challenges posed by the COVID-19 epidemic, the EOC fulfilled its performance pledge of concluding 75% of the complaints within six months, with the successful conciliation rate reaching an all-time high of 86% in 2021-22.

Attending the award presentation ceremony on 16 November 2022 alongside Sofie and Annie to share the joy of commendation were EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin, Mr Ivan LUK Chi-cheung, Executive Director (Enforcement) and Mr Tony SIU Kit-hung, Director (Complaint Services) of the EOC.

As Mr Chu said, “We are deeply honoured by the significant recognition represented by these awards. As a public organisation, the EOC is committed to serving the public with professionalism and agility. The awards will certainly motivate us to do even better and further elevate our quality service.”

The Ombudsman’s Awards Scheme was introduced in 1997 to promote good public administration. It was extended in 1999 to honour individual public officers.
