EOC publishes Annual Report 2021-22

The EOC’s Annual Report 2021-22 was tabled at the Legislative Council and published on the EOC’s website on 7 December 2022.

Carrying the theme ‘Building a Bright Future Together…25 Years and Beyond’, the report details the EOC’s work in law enforcement, policy advocacy, public education and promotion from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, as the EOC reached its 25th anniversary milestone. Notwithstanding the challenges posed by the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, the EOC continued to forge ahead with its work. During the year, the EOC handled 10 124 enquiries and 1 266 complaints, held 495 training sessions for 29 276 participants and organised 60 major promotional activities. From a series of award presentation ceremonies for the inaugural Equal Opportunity Employer Recognition Scheme and a citywide integrated publicity campaign on the new legal protection for breastfeeding women against discrimination and harassment to a sticker design competition on preventing sexual harassment, the release of the Equal Opportunities Awareness Survey 2021 and multiple submissions on policy recommendations and law reforms, the EOC heralded not only strengthened collaboration, but also concrete progress made.

The year also saw the EOC heavying up its digital effort, with the launch of its Instagram profile ‘EO Matters’ to engage the younger generation, and a complete revamp of its website, which recorded over 1.8 million users and 51.4 million hit rate during the year.

As EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin said, “The year 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. The milestone not only represents the achievements of the city in the past 25 years, but also ushers in a new era of opportunities to build a bright future…To bring about meaningful changes in Hong Kong’s equality landscape, the EOC will continue to collaborate with all sectors in our society, innovate and evolve, and focus on narrowing differences and nurturing consensus. Ultimately, our work is integral to addressing the difficulties facing communities in need, as well as cultivating harmony and stability in the city we call home.”
