Join the carer storytelling campaign and let your story be heard and valued

Are you a carer? Do you have a story to tell? How about joining a carer storytelling campaign to share your experiences and inspire others?

The Navigator Life Planning and Development Company Limited is now organising a ‘Caring for Carers: Storytelling Campaign 2022-23’. Funded by the EOC’s Community Participation Funding Programme on Equal Opportunities, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the contribution of carers, the challenges they face and the importance of community support and family-friendly employment practices.

Indeed, the stories of carers deserve to be heard and valued. According to a feature article by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD), there were more than 452 200 carers in Hong Kong in 2020, taking care of the day-to-day living of persons with disabilities and those with chronic diseases. The majority of these carers were the children/sons-in-law/daughters-in-law of the persons receiving care. Day after day, they provide care and support to their family members with disabilities, chronic conditions, terminal illness or mental illness, or those who is frail due to age.

These carers, mostly unpaid, are the unsung heroes of society, enduring the frustrations, hardships, stress and even sense of isolation arising from the caring responsibilities. Over 50% of the carers felt stressed due to the caring duties, as revealed in the C&SD article.

In collecting and releasing the stories of carers, it is hoped that the carers’ experiences can offer insights and perspectives to others, and that there is greater awareness of the situations and needs of carers. Under the campaign, carers may submit their stories in the format of text, videos, recordings or drawings. Deadline for submission is 31 January 2023. Details can be found in the application form.

Upon receiving and reviewing the entries, the organiser will shortlist five stories for video production. The videos of the carers’ stories will then be uploaded online for the public to vote for ‘My Favourite Carer’s Story’.

Submit your story now and let your story be heard.
