EO Youth Ambassadors gain insights from EOC Chairperson and Members

On 1 April 2023, over 30 Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors took part in a mentoring event in which they heard some personal stories and insights from EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin and Members Prof Cecilia CHAN Lai-wan, The Hon Vincent CHENG Wing-shun, Dr Rizwan ULLAH and Mr Gary WONG Chi-him.

In the lively dialogue with the tertiary students, Mr Chu shared his career journey in public service and elaborated on how he overcame challenges and dealt with controversies. He encouraged the students to be resilient and persistent to achieve their goals, and remain innovative and calm to solve any problems.

The EOC Members also shared their lesser-known personal ups and downs in their careers and DEI journeys. Not only did the ambassadors deepen their understanding of diversity and inclusion, but they also developed closer bonds with EOC Chairperson and Members.

In the past few weeks, an array of exciting and experiential activities were organised for the ambassadors. At the Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Training School, the students had the chance to spend time with some cute guide dogs and learned how people with visual disabilities cope with everyday challenges.

The students also had a memorable adventure in the culturally diverse neighbourhood of Wan Chai in February. With the guides from WEDO Global, the ambassadors toured different local historical sites and religious establishments, such as Blue House and the Sikh Temple in the district, getting a glimpse of the lives of different ethnic and religious groups residing in Hong Kong.

In May, the EOC will hold a Recognition Ceremony to celebrate the completion of the scheme and the youth ambassadors’ remarkable achievements.
