EOC calls on employers to implement family-friendly employment practices

In recent years, work-life balance has become a prime concern for many people, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Family-friendly Employment Practices (FFEPs) by employers, such as flexible work arrangements and carer support, enable employees to juggle work and caring responsibilities, while boosting their productivity and sense of belonging.

In an op-ed published in HK01, EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin highlighted that FFEPs hold the key for companies to attract and retain talent. He explained that many businesses have experience in implementing flexible work arrangements following the pandemic, and many have also reaped the benefits they bring.

“To be regarded as a good employer, it is crucial to not only create a family-friendly work environment and support employees in achieving work-life balance, but also foster a culture that embraces diversity, equality, and inclusion. This will make employees feel respected and valued, thereby cultivating greater loyalty and dedication,” Mr Chu said.

In an effort to further promote FFEPs to employers, the EOC organised a seminar on the topic on 19 January 2024. The event featured a panel discussion with speakers from Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, MTR Corporation, Richform Holdings Limited, and Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong. The panellists exchanged ideas on effective strategies to implement FFEPs, and explored innovative ways to support employees with caregiving responsibilities.
