EOC launches events and campaign to mark IDERD 2024

The EOC has launched a series of events and initiatives in commemoration of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD), which is observed annually on 21 March.

On 16 March, the EOC hosted the Diversity & Inclusion Education Forum in collaboration with Inspiring Girls Hong Kong and WEDO GLOBAL. The event brought together around 100 educators and school representatives to explore best practices in promoting equal opportunities in the field of education. The forum, which also marked International Women’s Day on 8 March and World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March, featured a panel discussion with education experts and diversity, equality, and inclusion practitioners on ways to address unconscious biases related to gender, race, and disabilities among teachers and students. Three schools also shared their innovative initiatives to promote racial harmony and female empowerment within the educational context.

Meanwhile, approximately 180 schools in the EOC’s Racially Friendly Campus Recognition Scheme have organised various student activities and displayed the “All Races as One” poster on their campuses throughout March 2024 to promote racial inclusion in schools. The EOC has also launched a bus body advertising campaign across Hong Kong to mark IDERD and the 15th anniversary of the implementation of the Race Discrimination Ordinance.
