EOC participates in Building a Multicultural Workplace Job Fair
On 13 November 2024, the EOC participated in the ‘Building a Multicultural Workplace Job Fair’ organised by the Labour Department and the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong Ethnic Minorities Committee (DAB EMSC). The event provided 3 100 quality job vacancies from 50 participating organisations to individuals from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
As a supporting organisation, the EOC showcased 70 job vacancies from 22 signatories of the Racial Diversity and Inclusion Charter at its dedicated booth. A total of 65 job seekers from diverse cultural backgrounds applied for these positions. In addition, the EOC hosted two career talks on legal/law enforcement and the technology sector, attracting over 80 participants, including senior secondary students from two schools.
EOC Chairperson Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau joined Hon Vincent CHENG Wing-shun, Chairperson of DAB EMSC and EOC Member, to speak at the event. “Job seekers coming from racially diverse communities often encounter challenges in looking for employment. Language barrier is a common hurdle but other factors, such as bias, stereotyping exist too. We need events like this job fair for the promotion of and education for a racially diverse workplace,” she said.
