Women Workplace Index releases Women Workplace Monitor 2024
Women Workplace Index is an organisation which aims to encourage employers’ disclosures on women workplace representation in Asia, set best practices, and accelerate changes to improve women’s representation. It operates a public database that tracks women workplace representation and gender-inclusive employment practices in Asia, with initial focus on Hong Kong companies. Earlier this month, it released the inaugural Women Workplace Monitor 2024, which analysed public disclosures from over 250 companies listed or based in Hong Kong to assess female representation in diverse sectors and the implementation of policies that promote gender equality.
The report found that Hong Kong registered a gender-balanced participation in the overall workforce, with women representing 41% of the general workforce. However, there is still significant gender disparity in senior management representation and pay. For example, female representation in senior executive management is at 25%, while women earn 20% to 30% less than men in basic pay.
Regarding the implementation of practices that promote gender equality in the workplace, around 25% of the companies have set quantitative targets for female representation. Equal pay policies and family-friendly practices are also offered by over half of the companies.
