EOC holds sharing session on applying universal design in the workplace

On 8 April 2025, the EOC held a sharing session to showcase exemplary universal design practices for the workplace. Participants from diverse sectors, including property management, human resources, public bodies, engineering consultancies, NGOs and social enterprises, joined the event to explore effective strategies to improve workplace accessibility.

At the event, representatives from three awardees of the inaugural Universal Design Award Scheme (UDAS), including Nan Fung Property Management, the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited, and the Hong Kong Productivity Council, shared their experiences and insights on their organisations’ strategies to improve accessibility with the participants. Representatives from the EOC also gave a presentation on the principles and applications of universal design, along with a brief summary of observations on good practices in universal design.

In her opening remarks, EOC Chairperson Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau said, “An accessible work environment provides benefits for both employers and employees. For employees, their experience and wellbeing at work will improve, enhancing their sense of belonging to the company. At the same time, companies can boost their competitiveness by leveraging a positive work environment to retain and attract diverse talent.”

Meanwhile, the EOC will announce details of UDAS 2026/27 in the 4th quarter of 2025. Interested parties can sign up to the UDAS Network to receive the latest news and updates.
