The EOC Announces Winning Results of the Equal Opportunities Micro Film Competition

16/03/2016

The Equal Opportunities Micro Film Competition was launched in October 2015, with the aim of enhancing the understanding and support of the general public, in particular the video lovers, towards equal opportunities by leveraging on the power of the Internet and interactive media to eliminate discrimination and build an inclusive society. The deadline of the Competition was in late January 2016. The EOC received entries of a wide range of topics from different sectors, including primary and secondary schools, tertiary and vocational training institutions, as well as voluntary organisations and individual members of the public.

In recognition of the participants’ creativity and motivations to promote equal opportunities and inclusion, the Competition featured three Special Recognition Awards in addition to Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up Awards. On 13 March 2016, the award presentation ceremony took place during the public event of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The winning micro films were shown and well-received by the audience.

The Championship “SEN Right - Group Photo” (filmed by Chau Po Kit) describes how a teacher tried to help a student with SEN to be integrated into the classroom. The First Runner-up “Sunshine Café” (filmed by Chan Chun) portrays how a South Asian young adult suffering from rickets became a baker with a determined mind. “Youth is not a Sin” (filmed by Lau Chat Shing Jackson), which explores the issue of age discrimination through depicting the life story of a young automobile technician who struggled to his success, was presented with the Second Runner-up Award. Special Recognition Awards were also awarded to three participants, including “Colourblind” (filmed by Glovani Tengga), which reflects racial prejudices; “Prejudice” (filmed by Hou Ho Wai), which describes SEN students being bullied at school; and “Escape” (filmed by Wood Zhang), which calls on people to reflect upon the issue of discrimination against sexual orientation.

All winning entries are uploaded onto the EOC YouTube Channel. Public members may visit the EOC website at http://www.eoc.org.hk/eoc/otherproject/microfilm/default.aspx for more information about the competition and the results. For enquiries, please contact Ms Jackie CHAN at 2106 2260.
