EOC’s response to the decision of the Labour Tribunal Case 543/2015
02/11/2015
In respect of the decision handed down by the Labour Tribunal today (2 November 2015) on the captioned case which concerned a former employee, the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) will carefully study the judgment and consider whether further actions are necessary.
It is the EOC’s view that the former employee concerned has breached the EOC’s Code of Conduct and his acts have seriously conflicted with the EOC’s legitimate business interests and have affected its credibility. The decision of not granting gratuity to this employee was only made after he refused to apologize for his wrongdoings.
The EOC is a statutory body tasked with the elimination of discrimination, promotion of the principles of equal opportunities and implementation of anti-discrimination ordinances. As a statutory body which provides services to the public, a good reputation and credibility are of utmost importance. We require all employees to maintain high moral and ethical standards in accordance with our Code of Conduct and will continue to strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy in this respect.
