Equal Opportunities Commission Appoints Mr. Andy Hui Chi-on as Equal Opportunities Ambassador

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) appoints Mr. Andy HUI Chi-on as the new Equal Opportunities Ambassador (平等機會大使) today (8 July 2002) and launches its summer youth project “Equal Opportunities Union 2002” in conjunction with Metroshowbiz (FM 99.7).
A new equal opportunities theme song titled “A World without Discrimination (沒有歧視的世界)” was created for the EOC project, and sung by Mr. Andy HUI. The song was broadcast for the first time during today’s launching ceremony. Mr. HUI was presented the Equal Opportunities Ambassador Award during the ceremony and he pledged to assist the Commission to promote equal opportunities through participating in a series of promotional activities.
An estimated one million listeners are expected to tune in to Metroshowbiz, and learn more about equal opportunities from a series of programmes to be broadcast between July and August 2002.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Anna WU Hung-yuk, Chairperson of the EOC said, "In order to build a society without discrimination, it is essential to raise awareness and to educate our young people about the concepts of equal opportunities. This summer project is part of our public education initiatives. We are very honoured to have Mr. Andy HUI serve as our Equal Opportunities Ambassador, I would also like to thank Metroshowbiz for making this “Equal Opportunities Union 2002” possible. "
New TV and radio APIs which feature the equal opportunities theme song and Mr. Andy HUI will be broadcast in August 2002. Other programmes of the “Equal Opportunities Union 2002” include the Equal Opportunities Karaoke Competition, a radio drama series and a carnival.
Members of the public can participate in the Equal Opportunities Karaoke Competition in the radio programme, “I Know Where” on Metroshowbiz starting from 15 to 26 July 2002 (Monday to Friday, 8-9 pm).
A radio drama series (in Cantonese) titled “The Equal Opportunities Files (平等機會檔案)” which features Mr. Andy Hui, Ms. Ng Wing–mei and Mr. Cheng Kai–tai, will be broadcast from 22 July to 2 August 2002 (Monday to Friday, 6-8 pm) during “G.. O. D. Nation”. The 10-episode docu-drama series will highlight different real life cases of sex discrimination, disability discrimination and family status discrimination.
The finale of the “Equal Opportunities Union 2002” is a carnival to be held at Plaza Hollywood in Diamond Hill on 17 August 2002.
