"Equal Opportunities Cup" 1st Inter-University Bilingual Speech Contest "LIVE" on the Net

The 1st Inter-University Bilingual Speech Contest, jointly organized by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and Hong Kong's seven universities, will be held tomorrow (12 April 2001). 14 contestants from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Lingnan University will speak on the theme "A Beautiful World - A World Without Discrimination". They will be competing for the "Equal Opportunities Cup" in the English Language and Cantonese sections. Details are as follows:


Date: Thursday, 12 April 2001


Time: 7pm to 9pm


Venue: Academic Community Hall, Hong Kong Baptist University


The contest, apart from enhancing university students' understanding of equal opportunities concepts, also aims at polishing their language and presentation skills. In order to attract a much larger audience, the event will be broadcast "live" on the websites of Hong Kong Baptist University (http://www.hkbu.edu.hk/vnet), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (http://www.polyu.edu.hk/video), the University of Hong Kong (http://www.hku.hk/osa) and the EOC (http://www.eoc.org.hk/about/about.htm).


Mr. Chung King-fai, Dean of Drama of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; Dr. Eden Woon, Director of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Peter Cheung, Secretary General of the University Grants Committee; Mr. Talis Wong of Toastmasters International and Mrs. Peggy Lam, Convenor of the EOC's Community Participation and Publicity Committee have kindly consented to be the adjudicators for the contest.
