Equal Opportunities Summer Youth Camp

21/08/1999

Over 260 secondary school students participated in the Equal Opportunities Summer Youth Camp today (21 August 1999) at the Breakthrough Youth Village. The educational youth camp was jointly organised by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and Breakthrough.

To kick off today's youth camp, the Chairperson of the EOC, Ms Anna Wu, put forward a slogan of equal opportunities: A beautiful world. A world without discrimination.

"Young people is an important target of the EOC to generate awareness and understanding of the concept of equal opportunities. We are very pleased to be working with Breakthrough in organising this educational programme." said Ms Anna Wu.

"In order to create an environment where there are no barriers to equal opportunities and no discrimination, we need the full support of the community. The EOC will continue to form partnerships with different organisations to promote equal opportunities." Ms Wu added.

The day camp which featured outdoor games, training workshops and a variety show on equal opportunities, attracted an enthusiastic response from secondary school students. Over 500 students from 80 secondary schools joined the day camp to learn the concept of equal opportunities. The EOC and Breakthrough organised two day camps in this summer and the first one was held on 24 July 1999.
