11/07/2007

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and RTHK Radio 2 held the Prize Presentation Ceremony of the "Equal Opportunities Diversity Project" today (Wednesday, 11 July 2007). The Equal Opportunities Diversity Project (平等機會多元共融行動) is a 14-month radio programme running on RTHK Radio 2 from May 2006 to early July 2007. The theme of this project is to promote racial harmony, inclusion of persons with a disability, gender equality and accommodation for persons with family status.

The programme features weekly interviews with selected guests on equal opportunities issues, the Essay Competition on Diversity and the Powerful Images of Racial Harmony Photo Competition. This prize presentation ceremony is the finale of this project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Raymond TANG, Chairperson of the EOC said, "In the past 14 months, over 60 guests including Legislative Councillors, representatives from NGOs, rehab groups, women’s groups and universities were interviewed in our radio programme to raise public awareness and acceptance of all individuals, irrespective of their race, gender, disability or family status. I wish to thank our media partner RTHK Radio 2 for bringing the message of diversity and inclusion to Hong Kong’s radio listeners through this programme.”

Mr. Raymond Tang was joined by EOC Members Dr. LO Wing-lok, Mr. Saeed UDDIN, Mr. CHONG Chan-yau and Ms. Garling WONG to present prizes to winners of the Essay Competition on Diversity and the Powerful Images of Racial Harmony Photo Competition linked with this radio programme and our Career Challenge Ambassadors.
