EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Pregnancy Discrimination Case
05/09/2008
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (5 September 2008) issued legal proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, Cap. 480 in the District Court, on behalf of a female clerk who was dismissed on the ground of her pregnancy. The Plaintiff, while still on probation, was dismissed shortly after she had informed her employer about her pregnancy.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case because it involves an important principle of pregnancy discrimination against employees during probation period. By taking this case to court, the EOC hopes to remind employers regarding protection against pregnancy discrimination in the various stages of employment.
