On 17 August 2023, the EOC issued a statement to welcome the District Court’s ruling in favour of a woman (the Claimant), who was unlawfully discriminated against by her employer (the Respondent) because of her pregnancy.

Chinese-language proficiency remains a significant barrier for ethnic minorities in accessing career opportunities. Despite an increasing number of non-Chinese young people in Hong Kong pursuing post-secondary education, many of them graduate from schools without the necessary proficiency in Chinese, particularly in reading and writing.

The EOC conducted an English and a Cantonese briefing session on 17 August and 22 August 2023 respectively to provide organisations with comprehensive information on how to apply for the 2023-24 Community Participation Funding Programme on Equal Opportunities (Funding Programme).

Pro Bono HK organises seminar on promoting anti-sexual harassment in the workplace

On 14 September 2023, Pro Bono HK, a non-profit organisation, will hold an in-person seminar in Central at 4pm. The purpose of the seminar is to explore strategies for establishing a safe and inclusive workplace environment that is free of sexual harassment. The event, funded by the EOC’s Community Participation Funding Programme on Equal Opportunities, aims to provide attendees with knowledge about sexual harassment and practical tips for handling related complaints. The event will be conducted in English.
