EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Pregnancy Discrimination and Victimisation Case
05/08/2002
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (5 August 2002) issued legal proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, Cap. 480 in the District Court on behalf of a woman who was discriminated against by her employer after she gave notice of her pregnancy and was eventually victimised and dismissed after she complained against the discrimination.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that pregnancy discrimination is still rife and the ways in which it may occur can be very subtle, so that it is important to maintain public awareness on the issue.
