EOC wraps up the first-ever Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme

On 3 June 2023, the EOC held the Recognition Ceremony of the “Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme”, marking the completion of the six-month programme engaging 35 tertiary students. Commissioner for Youth of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau Mr Wallace LAU Ka-ki was invited as the Guest of Honour of the ceremony, along with EOC Members, endorsers of the Scheme and representatives from various tertiary institutions.

On 5 June 2023, the EOC released the findings of the “Study on Effective Strategies to Facilitate School-to-Work Transition of Young Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Hong Kong”, which showed that young PWDs, with or without post-secondary educational attainment, encountered significant obstacles in transitioning from school to work.

An EOC-funded study released on 13 June found that there is insufficient family-friendly support in Hong Kong’s workplaces. Family-friendly Employment Practices (FFEPs) remain uncommon in Hong Kong, albeit the fact that carers constitute 60% of the working population.

With an aim to raise awareness and strengthen capacity towards students with mental illness among university staff members, the Student Affairs Office of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Dean of Students’ Office of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the Office of Student Affairs of Lingnan University (LU) will convene a physical panel discussion on special support for students with mental challenges.

The Research Centre for Gerontology and Family Studies (RCGFS) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) will organise an exhibition featuring photographic works produced by graduates and the tutor of the fifth edition of its photography training programme.
