EOC gives legal assistance in a sexual harassment case
On 24 April 2025, the EOC initiated legal proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance (SDO), Cap. 480, in the District Court on behalf of a female secondary school student (the Claimant). The Claimant alleged that a male classmate (the Respondent) sexually harassed her on many occasions from Form 2 to Form 4. These acts included sending sexually-indecent messages to her via instant messaging app and engaging in unwelcome physical contact. Despite the Claimant’s clear, explicit and consistent rejections of these sexual harassment acts, the Respondent continued to harass her and even escalated his conduct. The Claimant found these acts of sexual harassment offending and humiliating.
Two EOC teams commended in the Good Employee Recognition Campaign
The Complaints Handling Team of the Complaint Services Division and the Universal Design Project Team of the Policy, Research and Training Division have been commended as “Good Employee Teams” in the Good Employee Recognition Campaign. They have been recognised for their exceptional performance in five key aspects: work abilities, attitude to clients, adaptability, team spirit, and a sense of belonging to the organisation.
EOC releases new episodes of the “Harmony in the Universe” online educational modules
The EOC has released two new episodes and accompanying teaching materials for the “Harmony in the Universe” online educational modules. Launched in December 2024, the modules aims to enhance primary school students’ understanding of equal opportunities through unique and engaging learning experience. The modules feature animated short videos that follow two astronauts and their friends as they explore themes of diversity and inclusion in their journey through space.
HKBU’s School of Creative Arts hosts carnival to promote inclusion of people with visual impairments
On 27 April 2025, the Global Entertainment (Business Administration) Programme of the School of Creative Arts at the Hong Kong Baptist University organised an inclusive carnival for students, staff members, and people with visual impairments on campus. With around 100 participants, the event aimed to promote social inclusion and enhance public awareness of the challenges faced by people with visual impairments. The EOC served as a supporting organisation for the event. Dr Ferrick CHU Chung-man, Executive Director (Operations) of the EOC, also attended the carnival as a guest of honour.
HKIB hosts information session for 18th Outstanding Financial Management Planner Awards
The EOC has a longstanding partnership with the banking industry to ensure that individuals from diverse backgrounds have equal access to quality banking and financial services. Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB), the Outstanding Financial Management Planner Awards aim to promote best practices in financial planning among the financial planning practitioners, including ethical selling and product suitability for clients from diverse backgrounds. The EOC is a supporting organisation of the initiative.
