EOC gives legal assistance in a disability discrimination case
On 30 January 2024, the EOC issued legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO), Cap. 487 in the District Court, on behalf of a person (the Claimant) who worked as a customer service officer in a company (the Respondent), which operates piano learning centres in Hong Kong. The Claimant alleged that the Respondent discriminated against her by terminating her employment on the ground of her disability (i.e. hyperthyroidism).
EOC welcomes new cohort of Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors
On 27 January 2024, the EOC organised an orientation gathering for the new cohort of Youth Ambassadors. Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin, EOC Chairperson, Mr Gary WONG Chi-him, Convenor of EOC’s Community Participation and Publicity Committee of the EOC, and EOC Member Ms Queenie CHAN Lai-kwan attended the event to welcome the Youth Ambassadors.
EOC calls on employers to implement family-friendly employment practices
In an op-ed published in HK01, EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin highlighted that FFEPs hold the key for companies to attract and retain talent. He explained that many businesses have experience in implementing flexible work arrangements following the pandemic, and many have also reaped the benefits they bring.
EOC holds panel discussion on racially friendly customer service
On 27 January 2024, the EOC held a panel discussion, titled “Racially Friendly Customer Service: Why & How”, at the Halal Pavilion in LOHAS Expo 2024 to engage local product and service providers on ways to improve racial inclusivity in their customer services.
