EOC welcomes the appointment of new Chairperson

The EOC welcomes the appointment of Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau as its new Chairperson. On 19 March, the SAR Government announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Ms Lam as the new EOC Chairperson for a term of three years, effective from 11 April 2024.  She will take over from Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin, whose term will expire on 10 April 2024. Ms Lam served in the Department of Justice for a total of 29 years, and was the Law Officer (International Law) before retirement.

EOC launches events and campaign to mark IDERD 2024

On 16 March, the EOC hosted the Diversity & Inclusion Education Forum in collaboration with Inspiring Girls Hong Kong and WEDO GLOBAL. The event brought together around 100 educators and school representatives to explore best practices in promoting equal opportunities in the field of education. The forum, which also marked International Women’s Day on 8 March and World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March, featured a panel discussion with education experts and diversity, equality, and inclusion practitioners on ways to address unconscious biases related to gender, race, and disabilities among teachers and students. Three schools also shared their innovative initiatives to promote racial harmony and female empowerment within the educational context.

Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors participate in anti-sexual harassment workshop and visit Meta

On 23 March 2024, Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors (EOYAs) took part in a workshop on tackling sexual harassment on university campuses. Led by the EOC’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Unit, the workshop is designed to enrich the EOYAs’ understanding of sexual harassment and equip them to speak up against such behaviours on campuses. In addition to learning about the definition of sexual harassment under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, the workshop also provided practical advice on being an “active bystander” when witnessing or experiencing incidents of sexual harassment.

EOC organises “Under the Same Sky” film screening for blind people and those with visual impairment

On 24 March 2024, the EOC organised a screening of the “Under the Same Sky” short film series with audio description at a cinema. The event was attended by around 100 participants from various local organisations that serve people with visual impairments. EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin and Executive Director (Operations) Dr Ferrick CHU Chung-man also joined the screening, which is part of the EOC’s campaign to promote the concept of universal design in Hong Kong. The audio description version of the short film series was produced with the assistance of the Audio Description Association (Hong Kong).
