Good afternoon. It gives me great joy to see so many passionate young people here today! First of all, congratulations on being selected to participate in this year’s Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme. Being here means you have immense potential to bring positive changes to your community and our society, and we are looking forward to working with you all and seeing you grow in the coming days.

The Youth Ambassador Scheme began in 2022 with a simple idea: how can we enlist more young people to become our allies and help us spread the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion. Different generations have their own cultures and unique ways of communicating. That’s why we need you to help us bring the message of equal opportunities for all to your peers and your communities.

Over the next few months, you will participate in a range of exciting activities. These activities will give you unique opportunities to meet people from different walks of life and see a side of our city which you may not have encountered before. You will learn firsthand what diversity and inclusion mean in everyday life, and I hope you will be inspired to think about ways you can contribute to advance equality for all.

But the activities are just one part of the learning experience. There are 50 Youth Ambassadors in the scheme this year, all coming from different backgrounds. Each and every one of you has unique skills and insights to share, as well as individual stories to tell. I encourage you to take every opportunity to build connections and collaborate with one another. By working together and learning from each other, you will gain so much more and make a much bigger impact not just during the scheme but beyond.

Young people are our future, and you all have an important role to play in creating a more diverse, equal, and inclusive future for Hong Kong. Your commitment to these values is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to see where this journey ahead will take you.
